JANUARY 1, 2024.
Hello there. Happy New Year. Or should I say, happy year of the loverboy. Welcome to my official mailing list! I've always wanted one of these. With the launch of this brand new era, my team and I figured now would be the right time for me to write sweet sweet love notes for my beautiful audience watching on the internet.
Firstly, thank you to anyone who has supported the “Roy” era. From my debut album, visual films, and first tour, all of those elements are something I will always be proud of. Since being released in April 2022,“Roy” the album has received nearly 250k streams, and it's music visuals from my original films “Roy: The Film”, and “Where It Began”, reaching high peaks of 50k- 90k streams on Youtube. When wrapping up the completed era for ”Roy", I think everyone assumed I was going to make a country album follow up, considering both of my biggest songs, “Memories”, and “You & Me”, are rooted in that genre. While I would have 100% done that, that felt too safe for me. By now should know I LOVE switching genres. Towards the end of recording “Roy”, and filming both films, I toyed around with the idea of writing and creating an original R&B album. If you've been with me since my teenage years as “Dom Baza”, you already know, R&B was my home genre. After being blessed with the opportunity to explore alternative, country, singer / songwriter, and soul genres within “Roy”, it felt like the best choice for me was to reboot and reinvent what has become of me from this era.
In October 2022, Ant and I took our crew to Boston and filmed our film, “Where It Began”. That experience launched a wave of inspiration through my soul. By the end of production I wrote my first song for the new album. There was no going back after that, I was officially writing an R&B follow up to “Roy”. On December 6th, 2022, I headed home to Malibu and began production on album 2. Reuniting with Ben, we set out to create an album that would change everyone's perspective on the artist you have grown to know. In between the Closed Doors Tour, releasing Where It Began and joining the Sofar Sounds team, we birthed a new album, “Loverboy Lucian”.

Welcome to the Loverboy Lucian era. We spent an entire year with this joyous pain in the ass, haha. All jokes aside, my time on this album has been one of the most formative learning experiences I have ever gone through. I mentally, emotionally, and physically transformed through the creation of these new songs. Coming home to R&B has filled my heart and kick started my creative genes into orbit. There's so much I want to say about “Loverboy Lucian”, but I must save all those tiny tidbits for a later date. We just wrapped last month, exactly one year later on December 6th, 2023. Through the next few months, i'll be sharing behind the scenes tidbits, and more with you through these letters. The album is coming real soon. The first single is releasing sooner than you think. You'll get a notice within the next few days of what that song is. I'm very excited for you to hear it, and start to get an idea of what this “Loverboy” world is.
“Roy” was such a complex album and era. It had it's happy moments, and moments of sadness and uncertainty. We needed to go through that journey to get here. I made one rule when we started production on this new album. No sad songs, no negative vibes, just happiness, joy, and love. Everyone has this assumption that a loverboy is basically a fuck boy. There are so many more elements to a loverboy beyond sex. Although this album definitely touches a more intimate side of my personal life (duh, I'm always DFT 😈, for me a loverboy is not only sexy. A loverboy is romantic, a loverboy is joyful, a loverboy is hopeful, and a loverboy spreads love to those who need it most. So I hope you join me, and lead with joy, and love, as we go through this new era, together.
I'm looking forward to basking in your glow and experiencing pink and yellow skies, as we take a joyride through this beautiful brand new start.
Forevermore, I'm forever yours.
-Roy “Loverboy Lucian”. 💘
